How is it that

there are so many new things all of the time? Sometimes it exhausts me thinking about the shiny new things I haven't yet heard or seen. I'm barely through the As: Apples, Aardvarks and Anime. Well, I'm not going very far into Anime. As soon as I get to Art, I'll be stuck in the As forever. I think my destiny is to be the mayor of a small, suburban town where cultural production is a standstill. Is there something wrong with still listening to Iron & Wine? Maybe not - just makes me a boring dinner date.

"A regular mecca for art fiends and pop culture gluttons." What about pop culture and art in moderation? Has art and music consumption always been this glutenous? Didn't it start at the turn of the millenium? I think I'm right.

Plus, that movie about Edith Piaf ... now who would want someone to make a movie like that about them? I had to turn it off about half-way through.

This is me, these days:

There's no reason to keep track of what you don't know, but be aware of it, I guess, to make you appreciate the things you do know, and to doubly appreciate the things that make you happy, hmm?

A talent like that and you lose ownership rights to your life. I don't think Edith Piaf had a say in how she was portrayed, except to live her life anyway. It's more fun to be a famous actress than a famous musician, because with the former, they judge you for pretending, and for the latter, they judge you for living vulnerably.

Remember this day?

"the rest of the drive was ok until my car thought to itself, 'd'ya know, i've been driving for 5 hours at 90mph and i'm sick of it' and ran out of gas 10 minutes outside of goleta. so we pulled off onto an offramp, called anne, and danced on the side of the road until she showed up with gas. we twisted again like we did last summer. we mashed potatoed. we swam. we tootsie-rolled. we sprinklered. we even cockroached, per modest mouse's suggestion. in short, we had fun."
