Last night, I turned on the nightly news

and they were doing a cameo about a girl, who could play drums really well, and was excellent in her class, and smiled brightly to the camera. I thought, "I hope this isn't some sort of adoption ad, because that would be really f'd." But it was! At the end of the segment, there was contact information "if you are interested in adopting this child."

Listen, I have no problem with advertisers tugging my heart strings in order to sell me, say, candy. But children? Come on, now.

First of all, you should not be adopting a child because you feel pity for their circumstances. Nor should you be adopting a child because, awww, isn't she/he cute. You will be let down, you will be challenged, and because you are a parent, you'd better love it, you sons of bitches that adopt your children like you would adopt a golden retriever. Raising a child isn't always a feel-good story for the nightly news.

I'm just ... disgusted.
